During her run for the Wimbledon title last summer, a phone call to her husband helped Vondroussova calm her nerves to call for a classic update.

Olympic silver medalist Vondrousova recovered from 1-4, reeling off five straight games to upset fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 and reach the semifinals of the Wimbledon in a consolation victory over No. 1 Court.

Facing a 1-3 deficit when the match was stopped by rain to cover the retractable roof, Vondrousova did not contact her coach. Instead, the 24-year-old Czech got busy pushing buttons.

Vondrousova called her husband, Simik, at home in Prague, who encouraged her by telling her she was playing a big game and urging her to keep fighting.

"[My husband said] went well together, [you're] fair play," Vondrousova said. "He just said, Try to fight. You play well. You are playing a very good game.

"Yes, that was it. I mean, I think the break actually helped. It was good."
