Man Utd are fighting off rivals by signing a “crazy” Premier League star

Manchester United are believed to be battling one of their biggest rivals for the signing of a “crazy” Premier League star, according to a new transfer update.

Man Utd transfer news

The Red Devils have been linked with a number of potential signings in recent weeks, ahead of what promises to be an exciting summer transfer window with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in charge.

One of those players is Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong, who has been instrumental in winning the Bundesliga title this season, providing plenty of quality on the right. The 23-year-old has scored eight goals and registered seven assists in the competition in 2023/24, and could be seen as an upgrade on the likes of Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Jarrad Branthwaite has re-emerged as a target for United at the end of the season, following an excellent campaign for struggling Everton in the Premier League, including scoring the opener at home to Liverpool in the last Merseyside fixture.

Centre-back is a key position to focus on in the summer, given that there are a number of aging players in that position, and highly regarded Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo has emerged as another option for Erik ten Hag.

On the other hand, it is possible that some current players are leaving once the current campaign is over, and Marcus Rashford is another person the club may be willing to sell, following a difficult season.

Man Utd want “crazy” Premier League ace

CaughtOffside have recently claimed that Manchester United are keen to sign Brighton star Kaoru Mitoma this summer, and Ratcliffe sees him as the best option to bring him in.

However, the Japanese player is also wanted by Premier League rivals Manchester City and Arsenal, so there could be a big battle for his signature before next season.

Mitoma-Brighton

Mitoma could be United's best signing this summer, as he has emerged as an eye-catching player for Brighton since arriving from Kawasaki Frontale in 2021. His pace, athleticism and unpredictability are all outstanding, and so is Seagulls manager Roberto De Zerbi. He praised him before, and said:

“I have no words for Mitoma. He is really underestimated but he trusts me, he is very low. The football world still does not understand the importance of Mitoma. He can be an unbelievable player for any manager, not only for me. He is crazy.”

Mitoma could be seen as an upgrade on Rashford this summer, if the Englishman continues, scoring three goals and registering four assists in the league this season.

He also averages 2.1 dribbles per game, compared to 1.5 for the current United man, and 1.3 key passes per game (Rashford has 0.8), suggesting he could be a direct and tactical option capable of causing defenders big problems, or at least the England midfielder's best competition.

Arguably, those numbers will improve if he's surrounded by quality players, and at 26 years old, there's still a lot to come from him.

The Man United star has scored seven goals in the Premier League this season.

The threat of City and Arsenal is great, considering that both are better teams than United at the moment, but the hope is that Ratcliffe can persuade him to move to Old Trafford, and sell him his plans for the future.
