Football Insider reports that Leeds United could face a point deduction penalty if they cannot repay overdue payments.
The Whites are reported to have to pay £190 million in transfer fees, with £73.6 million due to clubs by the end of June.
Leeds may face difficulties if they do not pay on time as the debtor parties may take the matter to FIFA or the FA.
Leeds may be concerned about this as the club reported a deficit of £34.6 million in the latest financial year.
According to reporter Pete O'Rourke on Football Insider's Inside Track podcast, Leeds could face a two-point penalty if they fail to pay, as Sheffield United did recently.
The former goalkeeper of Leeds United and England, Paul Robinson, has revealed that the Whites need to be promoted to the Premier League because it will give them a big bonus.
“You look at the income of the Premier League and the television, the sponsorship and everything else,” he told the Inside Track podcast.
“Leeds United is a great football club, with fans and revenue they generate, not just locally but around the world. They are bigger than most teams in the Premier League now.
“There is another question about the field. Elland Road has been in need of repair for some time. They talk about whether they will improve the land.
“But if there is no money to make a profit, look at Everton, the new stadium they have, they go and try to improve themselves to get a new stadium to raise money. It is difficult to do if you are going to be fined for that.
“The accounts are really worrying, but I think the Premier League will come as a big bonus for Leeds if that's the case.”
“He hopes that there is no excessive spending that cost them points because entering the Premier League is difficult enough.
“But to begin with I just held myself behind the black ball by being deprived of points, it is difficult to stay there. It seems that a reduction in points is possible, and that would be a disaster. “
Leeds United are desperate for promotion
Leeds will benefit greatly financially if they reach the Premier League, so there is more pressure on the club to secure promotion this season.
Leeds may find it impossible to pay the outstanding fees after another season in the Championship, so the Elland Road boss will be hoping that Leeds can go through the play-offs and return to the top flight immediately.
