Arsenal says why he feels his former club will not win the Premier League

Former Arsenal player Jens Lehmann believes Mikel Arteta's side must be brave if they are to end the club's 20-year wait for the Premier League title.

The German was a key part of the Invincibles' unbeaten side that won the league in the 2003-2004 season, the last time the Gunners lifted the trophy.

Arteta's side currently sit a point behind Manchester City at the top, having outplayed Pep Guardiola's side, and finished the season with games against Bournemouth, Manchester United and Everton.

Lehmann sees Arsenal need to be bolder

The former goalkeeper believes that the current Arsenal squad is very different from the one that won the league in 2004.

“They are very different from us in their approach, they are very careful and slow with the ball”, Lehamnn told the Daily Mail.

Lehman believes that Arteta's team must be brave if they want to win the league.

“Physically, they run a lot and have high runs, but they don't play faster than us because we were a balanced team.

“They all touch three, four at a time. And if you are too careful in football, you cannot win trophies.”

The German feels that if the Gunners are to win the League they will have to be brave, and believes that being too cautious has cost them some games.

“Most of the time, the bravest teams win the league. I would like them to win the title but that cost them some games.

“It's been 20 years since we won the league and I hope Arsenal will win but it's not in their hands and that's a weakness.”

Without the distractions of Europe or the FA Cup final to worry about, Arsenal can focus entirely on their final three games of the season, which they need to win, and then hope City slip up.

Lehmann expressed concern that the lack of silverware shows that Arteta's side are yet to drop down the pecking order, with Arsenal last lifting the trophy four years ago.

“He did a good job but unfortunately he is talking to a guy who likes Arsenal, he wants them to win and not to be at the top,” he added.

“I am very disappointed with the way they lost to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

“After that they showed a good reaction against Chelsea and Tottenham. But to be a big team, you have to win trophies.”
