Cabrera will join us on the Legends Tour season opener – Golf News
The Legends Tour, formerly known as the European Seniors Tour, returns to the Caribbean island of Barbados for the first time since 2009, where Apes Hill plays host to the first event of the new tour season from May 3-5.
Barbados Legends is hosted by Ian Woosnam, an ambassador for Apes Hill, and a five-time winner on the European circuit for over 50 years.
Opened in 2009, Apes Hill is the newest course in the Caribbean, and a Ron Kirby designed 7,041 yard course that sits in a stunning location overlooking the Atlantic and is perched on a hill some 1,000 meters above sea level.
In addition to the 1991 Masters champion, the tournament attracted a strong field, including 2003 PGA champion Shaun Micheel, 2005 US Open champion Michael Campbell, and 2009 Masters champion Angel Cabrera.
Cabrera was released from prison last August after serving a 30-month sentence for beating his ex-wife and other former lovers.
The 54-year-old Argentine was reinstated to the PGA Champions Tour and the PGA Tour in December last year after his suspension from both tours was lifted. His last competitive tournament in the US was at the Pure Insurance Championship in Pebble Beach in September 2020.
He played the Argentina Open in February, an event sponsored in conjunction with the Korn Ferry Tour, and had hoped to compete in the Masters last month in Augusta, where he could be exempted for life, but his visa application was rejected by. the US government.
