Devin Booker on Knicks Chatter Gaining Steam

After the Suns were swept in the first round by the Timberwolves, ESPN's Stephen A. Smith dropped the bombshell that Booker is interested in being traded to New York.

“Booker wants to be in New York,” Smith said Monday First Take. “That's what I'm told. Now, he might deny it, I didn't talk to him. I'm just telling you that the scuttlebutt in NBA circles is that my brother wants to be in New York. So when you're in Phoenix, you've got at least two—maybe three—people who all make about $150 million combined who don't want to be there.”

Of course, some in the NBA community think that Smith sometimes talks for the sake of hearing the sound of his voice, but the ringer'Wosny Lambre has even backed up his claims.

“If you think that Stephen A is not included, you are wrong,” Lambre wrote in X. This did not come out of thin air. And I've heard the same things.

However, PHNX Games reporter Gerald Bourguet poured cold water on Smith's allegations as he said, “a source from Devin Booker's camp who is familiar with the situation told PHNX Sports that these rumors are clearly false.”

Bourguet went on to explain how far New York's interest in Booker goes.

“According to that source, the Knicks have been interested in Booker since Leon Rose's announcement as team president in 2020,” Bourguet said. “Rose, who was a CAA player before being hired by New York, was once Booker's representative, and other Knicks personnel connected to the Suns star, 27, recently expressed their feelings about his interest in coming to New York. .”

Suns legend turned NBA analyst Charles Barkley also thinks the rumor has no legs.

“Stephen A. thinks everybody wants to go to New York,” Barkley said Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Tuesday morning. “A couple of years ago, it was Donovan Mitchell. The last time … KD was a free agent was New York. Stephen A is my friend, and I love Stephen A, but he wants everyone in New York. He will not die happy until the Knicks win the title. … You can get over that (rumor).”

One thing's for sure, it's going to be an interesting summer.
