Lerato Dlamani-Arnold Khegai: TGB Promotions Come Out With High Finish IBF Title
Arnold Khegai's first fight with Top Rank could be at the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) event.
TGB Promotions won the IBF featherweight title fight fund bid between Khegai and Lerato Dlamani. PBC Futures stocks sought $71,000 to reach a High ($65,000) during Tuesday's session.
South Africa's Dlamani will earn 75 percent of the bid ($53,250) as the top-ranked player. Khegai must remain at 25 percent ($17,750) as number 3, one place below Dlamani.
The TGB has 14 days to return the signed contracts to the IBF and 90 days from Tuesday issuing the request to establish the fight. The winner will be the mandatory in the list of IBF featherweight Luis Alberto Lopez (30-2, 17 knockouts), No. 1 in 126.
According to IBF rule 9.c, both boxers are expected to move forward with the fight to avoid a demotion from the IBF rankings.
Dlamani (20-2, 11 KOs) seems determined to finish. He even dropped a rematch scheduled for March 31 with Tomoki Kameda in Nagoya, Japan. The two had to go back after Dlamani scored a hidden goal last October 7 in Tokyo.
However, Dlamani's contract had a trap door. Kameda Promotions was required to receive a sanction from the IBF such as vacating the title. The absence of those stakes gave Dlamani room to walk away from the battle.
A tough assignment undoubtedly awaits Khegai, (21-1-1, 13 KOs), a Ukrainian-born boxer of Korean descent.
Khegai has won five straight fights since losing in January 2020 to then Stephen Fulton in Brooklyn, New York. The fight was allowed to finish the WBO 122-pound title. Philadelphia's Fulton (21-1, 8 KOs), ranked No. 1 at 122, went on to win the WBO and WBC heavyweight titles.
The loss was the last at 122 for Khegai, who is now a featherweight and signed with Top Rank. His most recent victory came over Jon Martinez in the third round on January 27 in Barcelona, Spain.
