White Sox utilityman Zach Remillard was not claimed on waivers, according to the transaction log on MLB.com. A previous straight assignment gives him the right to test major league free agency, but Chicago's Triple-A affiliate announced that Remillard is back on their roster.
The Coastal Carolina product is consistent with the only organization he has played for. Drafted in the 10th round in 2016, Remillard slowly climbed the minor league ladder. He got his first big league call last year. Remillard played in 54 games as a rookie, slashing .252/.295/.320 through 160 plate appearances. The Sox removed him from the 40-man roster over the winter.
Remillard stuck with the organization at Triple-A Charlotte. Chicago optioned him back to the MLB roster in mid-April, but he took just five plate appearances in two games. He was designated for assignment last week when the Sox needed to clear the 40-man roster spot Danny Mendick. While Mendick was tearing through cover in Triple-A ball, Remillard was off to a .120/.224/.160 start.
The 30-year-old has a .237/.333/.365 slash in over 1100 career Triple-A plate appearances. He is a versatile defender with extensive experience in all four positions in the infield and left field.
