Ralf Rangnick rejects the request of the manager of Bayern Munich
Ralf Rangnick turned down the chance to take charge of Bayern Munich at the end of the season.
Bayern have been in talks with the Austrian boss for the past few weeks and were hoping to lure him back to the club as they prepare to bid farewell to Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.
However, Rangnick has now confirmed that he has chosen to stay in his current position for the foreseeable future.
“I am the manager of the Austrian team with all my heart,” said Rangnick. “I really enjoy this job and I am determined to continue successfully in the path we have chosen.
“I would like to emphasize clearly that this is not a rejection of FC Bayern, but a decision of my team and our common goals. Our full focus is on the European Championships. We will do everything we can to go far!”
Rangnick becomes the third manager to reject Bayern's advances this summer.
Bayern initially tried to sign Xabi Alonso from Bayer Leverkusen but, along with Liverpool, they were forced to look elsewhere after the Spaniard publicly confirmed his decision to stay with the Bundesliga champions.
The club then turned to Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann, who continued to sign a new contract until after the 2026 World Cup.
Unai Emery, another target, has also signed a new deal with Aston Villa, although Rangnick has always been third-choice at Bayern, and now finds himself trying to replace Tuchel before the end of the season.
