Canelo Alvarez calls his fight with Jaime Munguia a “dream fight” because it's huge in Mexico.
In Canelo's home country, they love his fight against the undefeated Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs), but in the United States, it's a normal game, a relegation to defend his previous title against Jermell Charlo and under Caleb Plant.
American fans want to see Canelo fight David Benavidez, not Munguia, and they don't like the idea of paying $89.99 to see a second fight. At a price like that, who can blame them for being sarcastic?
American fans would like this fight a little more if the organizers lowered the price to a more wallet-friendly $60. If it had a good undercard, pricing it in the mid-70s would be great, but it doesn't.
The fight will be with WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios who is defending against Fabian Maidana. Barrios is a decent welterweight, but he should be defending an opponent. Maidana is not ranked in the top 15, and most Americans have never seen him fight before.
Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) defends against God this Saturday, May 4 on Cinco de Mayo at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. It will be shown on Amazon Prime Video PPV and DAZN PPV.
Canelo's prediction
“I think I'm going to finish him within eight rounds, but it's going to be a good fight,” Canelo Alvarez told ESPN about his prediction for Saturday night's fight against Jaime Munguia. “This fight is my dream. It's big in Mexico.”
If Canelo is willing, it's a sign that he doesn't plan to fight anyone dangerous before he hangs up his gloves. This is not going to be as good as it was with Canelo because this is a huge disadvantage.
“He can win this fight. He's definitely a low-level person and I'm not saying he's going to do it,” said Chris Algieri on the YouTube channel Probox TV about the fact that Nukullukunia has a photo that offends Canelo.
