Canelo Alvarez-Jaime Munguia Prediction | BoxingInsider.com
Written by: Sean Crose
Let's start with the fact that people believe that Canelo Alvarez is slipping. He may only be 33 years old, but the red-haired star has faced his opponents, from Floyd Mayweather to Dmitry Bivol. These things hurt them. Throw in the fact that Canelo hasn't stopped an opponent since defeating Caleb Plant before the final bell nearly three years ago, and it's easy to see why people feel the future Hall of Famer may be past his prime. Anyway, this is Canelo we're talking about here – legit all the time. Is he really so rejected that he no longer knows better the level of the opponent Nukulunkia is injured?
I do not think so. Canelo may be over the figurative hill, but unless he declines quickly, it's hard to imagine Munguia defeating him on any consistent basis. People forget what kind of run Canelo had from 2019 until 2022 when he lost trying to cross the bridge too far against lightweight Dmitry Bivol. Because, during that time, Canelo has bested Daniel Jacobs, Sergey Kovalev, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant among others. Despite what the naysayers say, that is a myth.
The bottom line is this: Going down from the kind of run Canelo had is not the same as going down just because father time is pressing. Canelo's decline is not very similar to boxers going down. As is often said, there are levels to this game. Let's also not ignore the fact that Canelo is a consummate professional. No matter how many rounds of golf we see the guy play, he's always in good shape for the boxing life. Such things are important, especially as the years go by on the fighter. Canelo, when all is said and done, doesn't seem worried about having to get up early to fix things on the road.
Of course, none of this is to say that Munguia is NOT like that. He is taller than Canelo after all. In addition, his reach and footwork may pose a problem. Perhaps most importantly, however, the undefeated striker can hit and has the heart rate of Rocky Balboa. And of course, there is the matter of Canelo's age. Munguia is 20 years old after all. Ultimately, however, I see Canelo's experience and pressure carrying him to victory in this undisputed super middleweight title fight. Canelo by stoppage in the 10th round.
