Howe did not want to sell Saint-Maximin
Newcastle manager, Eddie Howe, has had to quickly adapt to how Financial Fair Play affects the way he can do his transfer business.
Although it has the richest owners in world football in the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), FFP says that money will not be wasted as it happened in previous years.
It also meant the club had to sell players, sometimes against Howe's wishes, which seems to have been the case with Allan Saint-Maximin.
“Maxi was my favorite player. Yes, he was a bit different from the average winger I've had in the past. He's a complete maverick, a magician with the ball but we've accepted his strengths and weaknesses in the team,” Gary Neville told The Overlap.
“I loved working with him. That was Financial Fair Play hitting us, so we should have lost Maxi right now. “
