2020 Olympic Bronze Medalist Samuel Takyi Signs With Streetwise Management

Samuel Takyi will focus fully on his professional career, now represented by one of the most prominent managers in his country.

Ghana's 2020 Olympic bronze medalist has signed a long-term deal with Streetwise Management, founded and led by Michael Amoo-Bediako. The signing prompted Takyi (4-0, 4 knockouts) to officially leave Ghana's novice boxing team for an active professional career.

“We have been following Samuel for a long time even before he was in the Ghana national team,” said Amoo-Bediako. A ring. “To put him in the position is good news. We want to thank Samuel's advisors Dave Itskowitch and Fred Asisifo for their hard work in helping to host this event. His former manager, Clement Quartey, is also very cooperative with the negotiations.”

Tayki became the first Ghanaian boxer in 30 years to win a medal at the Olympics when he competed in Tokyo. He lost a decision to Duke Ragan of the USA in the semifinal round of the featherweight bracket.

Only four pro bouts followed, leading to a return to the fledgling boxing circuit. He won a gold medal at the All-African Games earlier this year in Accra. There were hopes of representing Ghana again at the Paris Olympics in 2024.

A new dream awaits the 23-year-old lightweight.

“For all Ghanaians, it is with a heavy heart that I leave amateurs and devote myself fully to my professional work,” said Takyi to X. “It's been a great journey and I want to thank everyone who helped me with this project. all the way to the culmination of that historic moment at the Tokyo Olympics where I won my beloved Ghana a Bronze medal.

“I hope now to have the same success at the premium stage and bring another world champion home to Ghana.”

Among Amoo-Bediako's prominent clients is a local man, Richard Commey, whom he led to win the IBF lightweight title. The same formula applies to Takyi, including Hall of Fame promoter Lou DiBella.

A fight date has not been set for Takyi's return.

“Samuel is determined to return to the ring as soon as possible,” said Amoo-Bediako. “So, we're going to talk to Lou DiBella very soon to start making plans for the next phase of Samuel's career.”

Takyi's hope is to follow in the footsteps of his countrymen. Winning a major title is just the beginning for the likes of Commey, Ike Quartey and former Hall of Fame two-division champion Azumah Nelson.

The confirmation of a strong team in place is a relief for Takyi. It gives him a chance to focus only on the real part of boxing.

“Their guidance and support will be invaluable as I continue to train hard and pursue my dreams in the ring,” noted Takyi. “I also want to thank my family, especially my father, and my former boss Clement Quartey, my advisors Fred Asifo and David Itskowitch and my legal team led by Samuel Kissiedu Esq. I promise that I will work hard to become Ghana's next world champion.”
