NBC closes in on $2.5B annual NBA deal; TNT could face $2.8B
Comcast's NBCUniversal is closing in on a deal for a third NBA package, which could launch a “Basketball Night in America” telecast with an annual bid of $2.5 billion. Warner Bros.
Discovery, TNT's parent company, may need to raise its bid to $2.8 billion or face a lawsuit. Despite WBD's expectation to match the bids, the NBA believes that NBC's offer exceeds the game dollar-for-dollar because of its broader broadcast power.
Commissioner Adam Silver is looking for a mutually beneficial way to end the relationship with TNT, as the NBC package would include Sunday night shows and other prime time slots.
