Marek: “Sheldon Keefe is out. Who are the leading candidates? Do you know if there is a preferred candidate the Maple Leafs are looking at, Brad Treliving etc?
Friedman: “Me, look, I think there's going to be a lot, a lot of this going to revolve around Craig Berube and the way Treliving thinks about hockey, you'd think Berube would fit that.
NHL Rumors: Toronto Maple Leafs – Goaltending, Defense, Marner and Tavares
It's not Brad Treliving's way of just handing in a job. I'm always surprised, but I think, I expect that unless he feels that someone is his guy, he won't find him unless he just gives them a job.”
Marek: “Of course.”
Friedman: “I would expect you to go through a process. And I think you're going to talk to people like Berube. I wouldn't be surprised if he talks to Todd McLellan. You know, somebody reminded me this morning that you know, we've seen a lot of Jay Woodcroft and they wouldn't be surprised if he wanted to talk to him, too.
I think I'm like a lot of people and I think if I was playing, if I was betting, I would have Berube at the top of the list. But it's not like Treliving to run into someone unless circumstances force him to do so. And we have to say that it can happen here.
You know, like there's a lot of vacancies right now. The one in New Jersey I think is frequented by people. I think there are people who think New Jersey is on the way up and Berube is a very tough contender for that job.
But I'll back this up too, and I heard that McLellan might get a second interview there.
NHL Rumors: Oh Toronto … What to do? What to do?
So I mean, like, I think it probably comes down to a couple of things. You probably want to do a few different interviews, but it may also come down to thinking that you might lose someone again.
