Video: Xabi Alonso hopes the unbeaten run will not end in the coming games
Xabi Alonso is making history for Bayer Leverkusen this season as they aim for a historic unbeaten treble.
Leverkusen fought back from 2-0 down against Roma on Thursday night to draw 2-2 and progress to the Europa League final.
The comeback extended their unbeaten run to a record 49 games in Europe, surpassing Benfica's previous record of 48 which spanned 59 years.
Having won only two cups in their entire history, Alonso could win three in one season.
The Spaniard has already guided the club to their first ever Bundesliga title, while Leverkusen have also reached the finals of the German Cup and Europa League.
Speaking after the game, Alonso knows the game will end at some point, but he hopes it won't be in the next four games with two trophies remaining.
If Alonso manages to guide Leverkusen to an unbeaten treble it would be hard to argue with it as one of the greatest seasons in football history.
“It will take a while, but hopefully it won't end in the next few games.”
