The Arsenal star was impressive as Saliba vs Man Utd
So, there we have it. After 38 weeks of Premier League games the title will not be decided until the final weekend of the campaign. Arsenal needed to beat Manchester United to make that clear and they did, albeit riding on luck.
The Gunners have a poor record at Old Trafford but despite the gulf in class between the two teams this season, they could only manage a 1-0 win.
After United's 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace last Monday, Mikel Arteta's men will be licking their lips against Erik ten Hag's side. That said, the Dutchman has spoken to his team and the Red Devils look very organized, in midfield.
However, Casemiro, poor old Casemiro was going to be blamed again. Until the last goal of the game, United coped well, only for Brazil to lose concentration in an inexcusable way.
He failed to stay with his defensive line which allowed Kai Havertz in behind. The German came to the byline and returned the ball to Leandro Trossard. It was an easy finish, he couldn't miss, he didn't miss.
The flair of the Belgian – who has scored 17 goals this season – continued to ensure that whatever happens between Manchester City and Tottenham on Tuesday night, nothing will be decided until next Sunday evening.
So, Arteta certainly has Trossard and Havertz to thank for their attacking exploits this weekend, but who else should be praised? A certain William Saliba does.
William Saliba's work with numbers
Earlier this week the French player was named as the best young player. In fairness, this was a flawless campaign for the defender who looks like a Rolls-Royce at the back.

He showed a lot at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon. Helping to keep Arsenal 11 points clear in the league this season, Saliba took home the man of the match award for his impressive performance.
Why? Well, it was a dominant performance. United didn't throw much at the Gunners but Rasmus Hojlund still had a few. Alejandro Garnacho was also happy down the left. At one stage in the second half, the opposing player broke his pace and entered the penalty area, until he was met by the wall of Saliba who took out his leg and made an inch-perfect tackle.
That was one of seven medals won by the Frenchman. He was such a good Saint-Etienne defender that he won all those duels. That will no doubt please the flamboyant Arteta.
Saliba had 99 touches of the ball – the most of any player on the pitch – and completed 76 passes with a success rate of 90%, which is also the highest of any player at Old Trafford.
That said, let's give some praise to his partner in crime, Gabriel.
Gabriel's work with numbers
Although Saliba has been nominated for the young player of the year award, it seems that Gabriel has forgotten about him. It should not; this is another central defender well at the top of his game.
However, the Brazilian had his own medal to celebrate being called up to this summer's Copa America, just a few days ago.
Well deserved for a man who has been one of the best defenders in the top flight this season.
Like Saliba, he was excellent in winning duels on Sunday evening, winning 100% of his ground contests and losing one of his two aerial battles.

He makes Hojlund easy, strong and aggressive against the Dane in Football. Kayak Kaynak from London highlights that.
'A solid display from the Brazilian. Perhaps the name he has is a sign that Hojlund was looking towards Saliba. Stayed open when United had the ball for long periods, wrote Kaynak, who gave the 26-year-old a 7/10 rating.
Incredibly named, no player has left the field with a better competitive rate than Gabriel's 95%. He is surprisingly stable with the ball at his feet and deserves the same praise that Saliba received. They are certainly the best pairing in the Premier League this season.
