Devin Haney's Career: “Not Losing” Will Hurt Him
Devin Haney is asking for trouble by trying to get a “0” back on his record by having his attorney send a letter to the New York Commission. The fans will roast Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) for non-stop his entire career if that “0” is reversed and he doesn't need that grief.
Accept the L and Learn
Haney should just take the loss and find a way to avoid having his chin checked in future fights because what Ryan Garcia did to him will happen against other fighters if he doesn't mislead punchers for the rest of his career.
If the New York Commission gives Garcia an “L” and gives Haney the win, it will be open season for the fans, who will laugh at him as someone who can't accept a loss.
Even if Haney's team succeeds in regaining his undefeated record, he will lose someone soon if he focuses on fighting popular and talented fighters.
Devin's loss to Ryan Garcia showed that he doesn't have the ability to beat strong fighters, and he will have the same problem against other fighters at 140.
Haney's team has three things to present to the New York Commission to erase the loss:
1. Changing the weight
2. A positive PED test
3. IV use
Getting that “0” back is like trying to express milk. It's too late, and it won't make the slightest difference. The only people who will care about Haney's record are the fans who follow boxing closely, and they will not accept or respect him if his undefeated record is brought back illegally.
Casual fans don't chase records, and they won't care if Haney is undefeated. The only way they will pay attention to one of Haney's fights is if he is against a popular fighter, like Ryan Garcia, Gervonta Davis or Isaac Cruz.
I think Haney should just leave the loss from the Ryan Garcia fight last April and treat it like a permanent tattoo. He needs to step up his game because Ryan exposed the never-ending mistakes of magically getting his egg back by complaining to the New York Commission.
