France beat England in tough match at Moortown – Golf News

A special French team held on on the final day at Moortown Golf Club in West Yorkshire to secure a 13.5-10.5 victory in the biennial International Match against England.

The visitors led 7-5 after the first day and were only two points behind after four points on Sunday morning, and despite England getting off to a good start in the afternoon singles, the French fought back to win five of their eight matches.

The tournament produced some great golf competition, with four French players and two English players – Dylan Shaw-Radford and Harley Smith – all winning three of their four matches.

Morning Foursomes: England 2-2 France

Noah Auch-Roy and Hugo Le Goff were in poor form to be six under as a team through 12 holes including an eagle on the 7th. Dylan Shaw-Radford and Harley Smith fought their way back to the last 16 before the French pair won 3&2.

Will Hopkins and Zach Chegwidden played a thrilling match with Darren Strachan and Rafael Bobo-Lloret, sharing first place on the eagle and there was nothing to separate them after 13. But the English pair won 14 and 15 to take a two-hole lead ahead of the dramatic match. 17th hole. Hopkins produced a superb shot but Bobo-Lloret's response was a straight dart at the pin just a few meters long. Ben Brown and Ben Bolton found themselves 2 up against Oscar Couilleau and Louka Morin after 8 but were 2-under after 16, a hole that saw the Englishman lose by one. Although England did well to win 17, the French held the momentum to win 1 in the final.

Eliot Baker and James Claridge scored their first points of the competition as they defeated Callixte Alzas and Aaron van Hauwe. The French battled back to be all square after 11 but the 17th set ended up with a 2&1 win over the English duo.

Afternoon scores: England 3.5-4.5 France

Harley Smith completed an impressive weekend with a 4&3 win over Noah Auch-Roy while Dylan Shaw-Radford was in exciting form again with a 5&4 win over Louka Morin, including six birdies for the Yorkshireman. The two wins denied Auch-Roy and Morin four wins from four games they played.

However, Rafael Bobo-Lloret got the better of Ben Bolton 6&5 and Hugo Le Goff got his revenge in the 18th over Will Hopkins, after a remarkable comeback from the Englishman, to win 1 up.

Zach Chegwidden found himself 4-under against Darren Strachan, including a bogey on the 10th, before the Essex man birdied the 12th and won the 13th and 15th. Unfortunately, he couldn't make the most of a birdie opportunity on the 16th and 3-putted to lose the hole, ending up 2&1.

Ben Brown was 3-up after 5, but Callixte Alzas enjoyed a five-for-three in six holes to take the lead. The pair battled for the lead until the death and Bolton birdied the green in front of the clubhouse to secure England's third win of the day.

In the last two matches, Aaron van Hauwe held the 7th leg as he went on to win four of six holes before defeating Eliot Baker 2&1, while James Claridge played a tough match with Oscar Couilleau, winning the last two holes to tie the match. and finish the competition.
