Let me be very clear here – Saturday's heavyweight champion fight between WBC Tyson Fury and WBA, IBF, and WBO champion Olksandr Usyk is very painful for the judges. Why? Because it will be difficult, very difficult, to choose a winner who is even close to being accepted around the world. The fight is still a few days away, and I can already hear the controversy on the judges' cards. I don't see if a man can quickly finish another, after all. Furthermore, I don't see one dominating the other for any length of time. This will be anyone's fight until the last bell. And there will be complaints later. I could be wrong, of course, but I'm free to predict arguments here.
That does not mean that the war will be very good – but it does not mean that the war will be very bad. The word here is “interesting.” Here's how I see it playing out: Usyk, with his lateral movement and accuracy will frustrate big man Fury early. In response, Fury will start really harassing in the middle rounds. This is Fury, remember, the man who elbowed Francis Ngannou, licked the blood of Deontay Wilder and held like he was Wladimir Klitschko. He's going to go hard in this fight, and he's not going to be afraid to lay down the rules.
Which, of course, brings us to the final part of the bout. Expect it to be close as the fight heads into the final round, with Usyk possibly a few rounds ahead. And that's when Tyson Fury's show will come to town. Using every last bit of energy he has, the English giant will look tough and awkward, just like he did against Klitschko nearly a decade ago. He may not get Usyk in those six crucial minutes, but Fury will convince two out of three judges that he has.
And that, of course, will lead Fury won by Split Decision after the cards are read – whether you do or don't deserve to win. Fury is the more colorful and more profitable of the two fighters, after all. Also, people love the show, and Fury will give them one of those championship rounds. After that he will have to prepare for Usyk again in a guaranteed rematch. Who knows how it will play out?
