Estevao sends a message to Chelsea after a recent scouting trip
Palmeiras midfielder Estevao Willian has admitted he is “very happy” to know Chelsea officials have watched him play, with the Blues still in talks over a blockbuster deal.
Chelsea have agreed personal terms with the 17-year-old, better known by the disliked nickname 'Messinho', and are chasing a £60m deal with Palmeiras.
Blues officials were at home on Wednesday to watch Estevao play against Independiente del Valle and 17-year-old Kendry Paez, who will move to Stamford Bridge next summer.
Asked about his feelings about Chelsea's interest after the game, Estevao said ESPN: “Man, I'm really happy. I think they're watching because of what I'm doing with Palmeiras.
“Today, my mind is 100% Palmeiras, and I try to help Palmeiras as much as possible on the pitch. [Chelsea’s interest] it is the result of that. If God wants, He blesses me.”
Estevao's Palmeiras contract includes a £47m release clause, which would have to be paid immediately, but Chelsea are negotiating a deal that would see them pay a higher fee with favorable payment terms.
Reports suggest Chelsea will look to pay an initial £27m, with further £21m in add-ons, as well as paying taxes which would take the cost of any deal up to £60m.
Bayern Munich have recently been touted as potential rivals in Chelsea's pursuit of Estevao but the German club are not expected to pursue such a deal.
Barcelona are known to be fans of Estevao, who has publicly touted the Catalan outfit as a dream transfer, but their well-known financial issues will prevent them from offering any competition in the race for the youngster's signature.
