Hearn Eyes Haney – Garcia Rematch Despite PED Controversy
Promoter Eddie Hearn says he believes the rematch between his boxer Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia will happen despite Kingry's head on the plate for two PED tests. If Ryan can't solve his PED scandal, a mountain of money could be made for Haney.
Last Hurrah: Haney's Last Payday?
Hearn is playing a different tune now, from calling for Ryan's life ban on PEDs to now almost asking for a rematch between Garcia and a battered, property-damaging Haney. This could be the last chance to score big.
Haney doesn't have the talent to last long at 140, and Hearn should get him back on a bigger payday before it's too late before his career goes up in flames. Haney's chin is made of glass, and he has no power to hurt a fly.
Hearn wants that fight to happen despite Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) losing, and Ryan (25-1, 20 KOs) failing two PED drug tests.
The British promoter, Hearn, is on record as saying that he wants Ryan Garcia banned for life if he is found to have intentionally used PEDs in his fight with WBC light welterweight champion Haney.
Hearn obviously knows that Ryan is a big payday for Haney, and he wouldn't be crazy not to fight him again.
Haney: Fool's Gold
With Haney's lack of power and poor punch sensitivity, his career as a top player will effectively end soon.
It could end in his next fight against his WBC titleholder Sandor Martin. Hearn has to push hard to get a rematch with Ryan because Haney doesn't have the talent to last long at 140 without losing after losing. Hearn has no choice but to push the Haney-Garcia fight before Devin is seen as fool's gold.
“Imagine you are Devin Haney. You should have fought this guy [Ryan Garcia] that's heavier than him, and now you've got that,” said promoter Eddie Hearn to Fight Hub TV about Devin Haney's fight against heavyweight Ryan Garcia, who tested positive for PEDs last April.
“Time is a good healer. The rematch will be huge. I believe that there will be a rematch at some point, but we will wait and see,” said Hearn about his belief that there will be a rematch between Haney and Ryan Garcia.
Respect the Hustle
You have to respect Hearn for taking Haney this far with his limited talent, and careful balancing. He won't last long if Hearn doesn't keep him away from punchers, which means he won't be able to let Haney fight most of the top 10 in the light welterweight division.
“That was ordered by the WBC. Great fight by Devin. It's not an easy fight,” Hearn said about the WBC ordering Haney to defend against Sandor Martin next.
“Ryan came to me and said, 'Let's end the beef,' and I said, 'I keep saying on your behalf that I hope you're innocent, but you failed two drug tests.' Don't say it's my fault because that's ridiculous.'
“'No, no, I've been stopped. Well, you didn't come near me.' “I think a lot of what he does is create noise and preach, and he does a good job of it,” Hearn said of Ryan Garcia.
