Harry Kane's place in England's Euro 2024 squad is under threat with a back injury

Harry Kane faces a race to prove his early fitness Euro 2024 after missing Bayern Munich's last game of the season due to injury.

Kane moved to Bayern in the summer of 2023 and enjoyed a fine debut season in the Bundesliga, scoring 44 goals in 45 games in all competitions despite enduring another trophyless campaign.

However, the England captain has not featured for his team since being sent off when Bayern lost to Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals at the beginning of May.

He is currently undergoing special treatment after a back injury ruled him out of Bayern's final Bundesliga game of 2023/24, a 4-2 defeat to Hoffenheim that saw them finish third.

Thomas Tuchel gave an update on the striker's health ahead of the final match against Hoffenheim, confirming that he was unable to train with the team.

He said: “In Madrid, it was the limits. We tried injections and treatment. The back is completely blocked. It's worse and it keeps popping with small movements, every day. There's no chance he's training.”

However, there is still hope Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg revealed to Kane that he believes he will be ready to play in the Euro. The race is on for Kane as England manager Gareth Southgate prepares to name his provisional Euro 2024 squad on Tuesday.

Kane is still expected to lead England into the summer tournament, although Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins will provide an in-form alternative for Southgate to consider after scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists in the Premier League this season.

Ivan Toney is another centre-forward hopeful, while other attacking stars such as Phil Foden, Bukayo Saka and Cole Palmer are shoo-ins after brilliant campaigns at club level.
