Pep Guardiola gives a tearful response to Jurgen Klopp
Pep Guardiola was emotional as he paid tribute to Jurgen Klopp after he left Liverpool for Germany.
The pair have enjoyed one of the Premier League's most famous rivalries in recent years and Klopp admitted earlier this week that he believes Guardiola is “the best manager in the world” after guiding Manchester City to four successive titles.
After Sunday's action, which saw City win the title and Klopp bid farewell to Anfield, Guardiola was overcome with emotion as he responded to Klopp.
“I will miss him a lot,” Guardiola said in a press conference after the game as he appeared to be fighting back tears. “Jurgen has been an important part of my life. He took me to another level as a manager.
'I think we have an incredible amount of respect for each other. I have a feeling he will be back. I just want to thank him so much for his words.
“But you know very well that behind me there are many things that this club offers and gives me.”
Klopp was keen to forget the 115 charges against City for financial breaches and focus on Guardiola for leading the Cityzens to an unprecedented period of dominance in English football.
“Everyone knows about 115 charges, but I don't know what that means,” Klopp said in the run-up to the final day.
“I only know the number. Whatever happened at Manchester City, Pep Guardiola is the best manager in the world – and that is very important.
“If you put another manager in that team doesn't win the league four times in a row. That's up to him and his boys. Does that mean they can do what they want? No. But I don't know what they've done – if they've done anything – and I'm not here to say they have. Yes, I'd like to know about another one. the sun.
“Pep's quality makes a difference so I'm not worried about these things. We'll see. It's not my problem and I'm fine with what we have and what we've achieved.”
