Cesc Fabregas tells Arsenal what they need to beat Man City
Arsenal finished the Premier League season two points behind Manchester City.
The Gunners came close to winning the title but it was Pep Guardiola's Man City who won again.
Man City won their fourth Premier League title in a row, a record in England's top division.
Mikel Arteta's side finished the 2022-23 season five points behind Man City, while closing the gap to finish two points behind them in the 2023-24 season.
They are closing this gap but in order to win the league title, former midfielder Cesc Fabregas believes he must sign a striker who can score 30 goals in a season.
The difference in the top goalscorer between the two teams tells a clear story of how brutal Man City are up front compared to the Gunners.
Erling Haaland finished the season with 27 goals in the Premier League, winning the golden boot for the second season running.
Meanwhile, Bukayo Saka was Arsenal's top scorer with 16 goals. The Gunners lack a top quality striker and Fabregas feels that if he can sign such a player, he can end Man City's dominance.
Fabregas responded when asked if Arteta needed one or two elite acquisitions or more coverage on the BBC Sounds Planet Premier League podcast.
He said:
'I think it's funny because one day you watch both games at the same time and when you think about it you say, “Wow, Man City have like two teams that can actually win the Premier League”.
'Arsenal don't care about this, so for me it's a small thing.
'Yes, they need to go a little deeper to keep pushing, pushing through the season and not relying on Saka or [Declan] Rice or [Thomas] Partey if he is injured or not or if he continues [William] We are sorry.
“But also, in my opinion – and he's done really well but obviously it's not his main position – Havertz, he's had a good season, but if Arsenal can get a top striker who can guarantee 30 goals a season, then they'll be they are very, very, very close to finding it [the title].'
Arteta is looking for a new striker this summer and the lack of a top striker in the squad is an issue he is determined to address.
Arsenal are in dire need of a new striker
With Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah not scoring enough goals, the Gunners failed to win the league and went through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
Kai Havertz has played as a false nine for Arsenal this year and has done incredibly well but as Fabregas said, it is not his natural position.
The North London side need a ruthless striker who can also carry the burden of scoring goals and give them blood when they face Arsenal's deep-seated teams.
