Predicting the Copa America Starting Lineup

Several former fringe players from the Mexican national team will have the opportunity to perform on one of the biggest stages this summer at the Copa America 2024.

There has been an 'out with the old and in with the new' theme leading up to this summer's Copa America for the El Tri team. Mexico manager Jaime 'Jimmy' Lozano left out key former figures in his 31-man starting squad such as Hirving 'Chucky' Lozano, Guillermo 'Memo' Ochoa, Jesus Gallardo and Henry Martin.

Lozano opted to gamble on fresh, new faces like Santiago Gimenez and Angel Malagon – both of whom have had opportunities here and there with Mexico but will now be able to show what they can do when they start their group stage campaign. in late June.

Here's how the CONCACAF giants could qualify for Copa America 2024.

GK: Angel Malagon – Many eyes will be on the 27-year-old who has played just four games for Mexico since making his debut in 2021.

RB: Jorge Sanchez – The former Club America man will look to recapture the same form that saw him move to Dutch giants Ajax a few summers ago after a season on loan at Porto.

CB: Cesar Montes – Montes is ready to lead El Tri from the back as he is about to appear in 50 international matches for his country.

CB: Johan Vasquez – After a busy season with Genoa in Italy's Serie A, Vasquez continues to gain more experience alongside Montes' teammates in the center of defence.

LB: Gerardo Arteaga – The 25-year-old will be hoping to make the left-back spot his own with Jesus Gallardo out of Lozano's squad.

CM: Erick Sanchez – Sanchez can be a creative spark in the middle of the park for Mexico, pulling the strings in midfield.

CM: Edson Alvarez – The West Ham United midfielder will be more than happy to protect Mexico's backline while Sanchez and Chavez move up the pitch.

CM: Luis Chavez – Having just finished his first season with Dynamo Moscow, Chavez completes the midfield alongside Alvarez and Sanchez.

RW: Uriel Antuna – Antuna starts on the right side looking to make an impact in the final third.

ST: Santiago Gimenez – With Henry Martin not selected in Lozano's squad, Gimenez is likely to get the nod for Julian Quinones after scoring 23 goals in the Eredivisie last term.

LW: Alexis Vega – The former Chivas de Guadalajara player remains a strong option for Lozano to use on the left side who can link up well with Gimenez.
