Luka Doncic Says Kyrie Irving Changed Everything For Him
Luka Doncic says he relies on Kyrie Irving's guidance and knowledge every game, and that Irving's input has been invaluable to him individually and to the Dallas Mavericks as a whole.
“When we won by nine goals, in the last place, I said, 'I'm tired'. He said, 'it has to be',” said Doncic, who finished with 33 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals despite being in pain in his right knee.
“He brought that calmness to the team, maturity, and it was unbelievable to have him on our team.”
Irving's experience seemed to rub off on the Mavericks, who were cool under pressure in the fourth quarter of Game 3 tonight, performing well late in the game.
The Timberwolves have been the polar opposite in that sense, with their best players collapsing under pressure far too often.
On the other hand, Irving has been finding ways to step up. He scored 14 points in the fourth quarter alone in Game 3.
“Unbelievable,” said Doncic. “That's why some people call him Mr. Fourth Quarter, right? It's just amazing. You were born to these conditions. He's born in clutch situations, so we just get the ball to him.”
Irving himself gave credit to the entire team for rising up in a tough time.
“Down there, that's where we make the money, man,” Irving said. “I think we have that freedom now, and we're just showing our skills where a lot of teams have to watch out, the depth we have. Many groups have to watch out for each of us, and you have to pick your poison. “
