Virgil van Dijk swore at Liverpool ahead of Arne Slot's arrival

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has pledged his support for incoming manager Arne Slot as the Reds prepare to enter a new era.

Slot is heading to Anfield to replace popular manager Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down this summer after nine years at the helm.

Questions have been asked about Van Dijk's future at the club as he enters the final year of his contract, but the Dutchman remains committed to Liverpool and has vowed to support Slot next season.

“I fully trust the team and their decisions going forward,” said Van Dijk Sky Sports.

“Obviously, change is always an unknown, but I'm full of confidence and looking forward to the new season.”

Asked if he could reassure Liverpool fans that they would work to continue Klopp's legacy, Van Dijk added: “100%, but success is not guaranteed. That is very clear. But we will work our socks off to make it happen.

“We have a great coach coming in, a great staff, and we have a great team. Let's see what happens.”

The Dutchman's hopes follow comments from right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has also backed the club to find a replacement for Klopp.

Van Dijk, who will turn 33 this summer, faces an important decision of his own next year as he approaches the end of his Liverpool contract.

He recently revealed that he had not yet discussed his situation, as it is expected that there will be discussions in the coming months.
