The £8k-a-week Rangers player Clement is now set to pen a new deal
Rangers player Philippe Clement described as “great” could now sign a new contract at Ibrox this summer, according to a new update.
Rangers transfers and contract updates
A lot of changes could happen at the Scottish Premiership giants in the coming months, with a number of Rangers star players out of contract, including John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe, who are both expected to leave on free transfers.
Leon Balogun is also in the same situation, but no confirmed decision has been made regarding his future. Abdallah Sima and Fabio Silva will see their respective loan spells from Brighton and Wolves come to an end, and it remains to be seen whether it will be permanent.
In terms of new signings, Levski Sofia defender Jose Cordoba is reportedly set to arrive at Ibrox, seen as an upgrade for Ben Davies, as is the case even with treatment. Ferencvaros striker Adamu Traore is also considered an option, aged 28 compared to Kylian Mbappe in terms of pace.
Attacking reinforcements appear to be at the forefront of Clement's thinking this summer, with Aberdeen striker Bojan Miovksi also linked with a move to Rangers. Celtic provide strong competition, however, so the Gers will turn to youth winger Lawrence Shankland, who has been a huge success for Hearts this season.
Rangers' “biggest” player could sign new deal
In accordance with The Daily MailBalogun can now sign a new deal with Rangers this summer, extending his stay at Ibrox by another 12 months:
“Leon Balogun is ready to sign a one-year contract with Rangers. The defender is believed to have verbally agreed that he will remain part of Philippe Clement's plans next season, as formalities are tied up. Balogun only played 19 games last term, but the Nigerian-born player in Germany he has done enough to convince the manager that he deserves consideration beyond his 36th birthday next month.”
This could be a smart move for Rangers in the summer, even though Balogun is now 35 years old and is not a player who represents a long-term future. Clement himself is a big fan, suggesting he wants to stay, with the Gers boss saying at the start of the season after a good performance against Hearts: “I think of him [Leon Balogun] it was big today.
“He played a great game in training and in the second game because of his hunger and desire, so I know I have four really good defenders and this season they all played.”
The £8,000-a-week veteran has plenty of experience in his career now, having made 84 appearances for Rangers and enjoying spells at various other clubs, and keeping him for a year would be good for Cordoba, allowing him to guide the young defender and free him from life at Ibrox.

A long-term deal would have been a bad move, but having Balogun until 2025 makes perfect sense, and his submission to the league title would be a good way for his time at Rangers to end.
