Newcastle now eyeing 'excellent' £12,000-a-week ace after Adarabioyo hijack

After seeing off their deal to sign Tosin Adarabioyo from Chelsea, Newcastle United have reportedly shifted their focus to an alternative to Eddie Howe.

Newcastle transfer news

The Magpies appear to be wasting time this summer, with a deal to sign Lloyd Kelly on a free deal at the end of his Bournemouth contract reportedly on the cards. The versatile full-back will arrive on the back of a strong season at the Vitality Stadium and will ease Howe's deep defensive woes. But he was not meant to be the only Premier League full-back to arrive.

This will give Howe a lot of power.

Reports suggested Tosin Adarabioyo was also set to join Newcastle in a similar deal at the end of his Fulham contract this summer. The ball seemed to be in the Magpies' court, but then Chelsea came in and went in very quickly. Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are close to signing the defender this summer.

Without wasting time thinking about what might have been, however, those at St James' Park immediately shifted their focus. According to TuttoSport via Football Italia, Newcastle are now eyeing a move to sign Dean Huijsen in a deal worth just €30m (£26m) this summer. With Juventus looking to sell the young defender, Newcastle could facilitate negotiations by matching that price tag.

Still only 19-years-old, Huijsen's reported £12k-a-week salary won't break Newcastle's wage bill, making him a viable second choice after losing Adarabioyo.

“Very good” Huijsen can make Newcastle forget Adarabioyo

Impressing on loan at AS Roma last season, Huijsen could still get the chance to make his big move by joining Newcastle and playing in the Premier League. Furthermore, such a move would go a long way in helping Newcastle forget all about their failed pursuit of Adarabioyo this summer.

Huijsen's numbers highlight just how much power he has both on and off the ball, almost double Adarabioyo's ball recovery, while matching his continuous passing of 90 admirably.

It's no wonder the Juventus youngster has garnered so much praise throughout the season, including from Football Talent Scout's Jacek Kulig, who rates his positioning and ability to read the game as “very good” at X, while also highlighting his aerial dominance.

Everything points to a top player in the making and one that Newcastle should be looking at after missing out on Adarabioyo. In the long term, Huijsen may be the best option for the Magpies.
