Spurs are making an early move to sign a £60m “star” like Saka
Now that the 2023/24 campaign is over, the Tottenham Hotspur faithful must have mixed feelings.
Missing out on a Champions League place would have been very upsetting, but progress has been made under Ange Postecoglou.
It's fair to say that the difference has been the lack of a true game changer, as Arsenal have had Bukayo Saka, and if Heung-min Son had had more support, the Lilywhites could have achieved their goal.
Still, the Australian boss will be looking forward to next season, especially if he can land his version of Saka before the end of the transfer window.
Spurs' search for a new striker
According to a report from Football Transfers, Spurs are looking to make Eberechi Eze their first signing of the summer.
It is said that Spurs will “start negotiations” this month as they want to sign the ace for a price asking for £60m.
The number ten will not force his way out of Crystal Palace, but he hopes they will let him leave if the required fee is met.
However, the Lilywhites will not be alone in the search for the Englishman's signature, with Chelsea and two Manchester clubs also monitoring him.
How does Eze compare to Saka
It's included among all Spurs fans to despise everything to do with Arsenal, but one thing they can't deny is Saka's talent.
The Gunners' number seven has been prolific under Mikel Arteta, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists in the Premier League last season.
Son is the only more talented full-back in Spurs' squad, and Daniel Levy will want to bolster the attack with a profile similar to the England ace.
This is where Eze comes into the picture, and given his influence at Palace, he could be Spurs' version of Saka if he were to join.

According to FBref's similar players model, both Eze and Saka share a lot of similarities in terms of their stats.
Firstly, these two English stars are incredibly dangerous in front of goal; some would say they are a nightmare to play with, especially because of their ability to score point blank, which is evident by their excessive xG performance.
They are very confident players who take a direct attacking approach, often driving defenders with the aim of producing a combination or working half a yard of space for a shot.
In addition, Saka and Eze are unique, mainly because they are not only a goal threat themselves, but can also act as a source of creativity, as shown by their important passes.
Furthermore, their influence on the side is far greater than what they produce in front of goal, and their off-the-ball performance and fitness are also highly contagious.
But what makes Eze a “superstar” in particular, as called by commentator Ben Mattinson, is the fact that he can skate past opponents as if they weren't even there, thanks to his intelligence, strength, and ball control.
It is this that would also make him an improvement on Maddison, who only completed 1.1 dribbles per game in the Premier League and built more with his passing.
All in all, Eze is the type of signing that can take Spurs to the next level, and his signature could be the deal of the summer, especially if they can land a player like Saka.
