Hackett-Dobson, Nicolson-Vargas WBC Title Fight Added to July 13 Ennis-Crowley Show

A major title fight and the debut of 'Major' Matchroom will delight Jaron 'Boots' Ennis-Cody Crowley.

The full supporting cast was revealed for DAZN's July 13 show at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Newly crowned WBC featherweight champion Skye Nicolson makes her first defense against Diana Vargas of the Dominican Republic. It has also been revealed, rising hopes for Jalil 'Major' Hackett, who will face Peter Dobson in his first fight under the Matchroom Boxing banner.

“I'm really excited to start my contract with Matchroom with such a big fight,” said Hackett. “Eddie [Hearn] and Matchroom has a development plan for me that I'm excited about and that starts on July 13 against Dobson. You took Conor Benn a long way with a good fight, but I will prove that I am ready for this step and more.

“It's also great to be on Boot's card in Philadelphia. I've done a great job with Boots already and I know the tickets for this show are flying, so I can't wait to show my skills in front of a big crowd, live on DAZN, and watch Boot play the show. .”

Washington DC's Hackett (8-0, 7 knockouts) signed with Matchroom in late May. The deal came with the promise of an announcement coming out soon about his next fight. Hackett sought a tough job during his 2024 debut.

Dobson (16-1, 9 KOs) is best known for extending Benn (23-0, 14 KOs) a full ten-round streak this past Feb. 3 in Las Vegas. The undefeated 34-year-old from the Bronx suffered the first loss of his career.

The setback did not dampen his confidence.

“He's a little boy and I'm going to beat him like his father used to,” said Dobson. “You're trying to use me as a stepping stone and you're making a terrible mistake. There are standards for this and it's nowhere near mine – you're going to find it brutal come July 13.”

Australia's Nicolson (10-0, 1 KO) is enjoying a quick turnaround following his first major title win. Ring's 1-rated featherweight defeated former IBF Sarah Mahfoud to win the WBC 126-pound title. Their clash on April 6 saw Nicolson win by scores of 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91 to extend his previous interim title reign.

The 2020 Olympic quarterfinalist was hoping to challenge RING and joint champion Amanda Serrano for the division's top honor. Instead he will agree to make a ring to continue to show his worth.

“I'm excited to defend my WBC World title on this great card in Philadelphia,” said Nicolson. “Although it is only my 11th fight, I believe that I am the best fighter in the world at Featherweight. I want to find a way to hold more belts, my dream is to be uncontested and I am willing to take any challenges necessary to achieve that. I look forward to making a statement on July 13, live on DAZN.”

Vargas (18-1, 12 KOs) is entering his first title fight. The bout will also mark the US debut for the 32-year-old who has only fought in the DR as a champion.
