Kylian Mbappe speaks for the first time as a Real Madrid player

Kylian Mbappe has said joining Real Madrid is a “dream come true” after his summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu was confirmed.

The newly crowned European champions announced on Monday that Mbappe will join them when his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires this month, ending one of football's longest transfer stories.

Mbappe turned down the chance to join Madrid on a free transfer in 2022, opting to sign a new contract at PSG. But now he has decided to take his talents to the Bernabeu this summer.

Speaking on social media, Mbappe spoke for the first time since the announcement, expressing how 'delighted' he is to finally sign for Madrid.

“The dream has come true,” said Mbappe. “I am happy and proud to join my dream club. No one can understand how happy I am right now.

“I can't wait to see you, Madridistas, and thank you for your amazing support. Hello Madrid!”

Mbappe leaves PSG as the club's top scorer with 256 goals in just 308 games for the French giants. He also helped them win 15 trophies during his seven years at the Parc des Princes, although he was unable to bring the UEFA Champions League trophy to Paris.

Meanwhile, Madrid secured their 15th Champions League at the weekend with a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the season finale at Wembley – their sixth European title in the last decade alone. Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior scored for Los Blancos on the night.

Mbappe becomes the third major free agent signing to pen a pre-contract agreement with Madrid in recent years, with defenders David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger also joining the club at the end of their previous deals.
