Manchester City boss Al Mubarak will hold talks with Guardiola over his future
Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak is confident he will find the “right solution” for the club and manager Pep Guardiola amid speculation the Catalan will leave when his contract expires in 2025.
Guardiola spent eight years at City, his longest spell at any club, ahead of five at Barcelona (including his time in charge of their B team) and three at Bayern Munich.
Speaking in May – after City claimed their fourth consecutive Premier League title – he said: “The truth is I'm closer to leaving than staying. We have discussed with the team – my feeling is that I want to stay now.
“I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But eight or nine years… we'll see. I didn't expect to stay eight or nine years. I was expecting three, four or five but not much. I do not believe you. It's the Premier League. It is the hardest.”
Al Mubarak says that it is not the first time that the question of Guardiola's contract has been raised and he hopes that they will find an agreement that is acceptable to both parties.
Speaking in his end-of-season speech, he told the club's website: 'We've had this conversation many times before, you know, during the contract years.
“Pep has been fully committed to this team, fully committed to all the contracts he has signed with us.
“This decision about his future is always a decision that we will take together, I have no doubt that we will find it as always, the right solution that works for Pep and that works for us.”
'When that sinks in you appreciate the greatness of what has been achieved' 🏆🏆🏆🏆 – Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak

What did Guardiola bring to the Etihad?
City have enjoyed unprecedented success under Guardiola, winning the Premier League in six of the last seven seasons, as well as two FA Cups, four EFL Cups and one Champions League.
“It is difficult to explain what Pep has given to this organization, this club,” said Al Mubarak.
“You can just look at the records, because of the history and there I think he collected all the records, almost, in a book. And these are records that I think will be very difficult in the future to break. From winning six of the last seven Premier Leagues, to winning four in a row, to the number of wins, the records go on and on.
“I think how much his impact has been on football. English football has changed with the change of football in the type of football that Pep has brought to the league.”
