Kathryn Tappen: “All eyes are on Travis Konecny and the conversations surrounding him. So will he be a Philadelphia Flyer going forward? Dave, tell us.”
Pagnotta: “He would like to be.”
Tap: “Yes.”
Pagnotta: “And the Flyers want to keep them for a long time. And he has another year on his contract, technically, they don't have any, no worries at this stage.
NHL Rumors: Who would be interested in Carolina Hurricanes Martin Necas?
But there have been, the talks, I think they haven't started yet but the talks have at least started. So that flyers have an understanding of what connection they want. Which by the sounds of things starts at 10 in that $10 million range for AAV.
I think Konecny's camp understands that at least from Philly's perspective, he's starting eight. can you fill that gap? But there is quite a lot of time to get to that point.
But they already have informal conversations. Anthony Di Marco, my colleague who is also making sure that the $10 mark and the million dollar in AAV. At least from what they're looking at.
Hence the high price. And they have time to negotiate but at least both sides now understand where each side stands.
EJ Hradek: “Well, ten million dollars, you will enjoy other cities. I mean, that's where I can be but I think, it's Ying and Yang.
Pagnotta: “Of course.
Hradek: “You go back and forth with this thing. And he's an important piece for them, but that's high dollar value.
Tappen: “But what's the right price, you know, for him?”
Hradek: “Yes. Of course.”
Dave Reid: “A year, two years, as you look at it, you start to stretch those numbers by term.
Pagnotta: “Yes,.
Reid: “As a matter of fact, that is a matter of traveling with a high number of other players. It's like, for $10 (million), it seems like a lot but you know, that is, that's a negotiation for your part. And again, it's not just that yeah, okay, we've got three, three really good years left, you know, what's that three to eight? Where will that take us? AAV does not shrink.
Hradek: “Yes, that's my fear about a player like Konency because I like to watch that guy play. But he's not the biggest guy. He's playing above his weight, like he's punching above his weight.
Pagnotta: “Of course.
Hradek: “And it's good while you can't,
Pagnotta: “Of course
Hradek “But as you know, Dave, we saw it right? Those kind of players, their shelves, their shelf life is really limited because they are definitely needed. hhey are beaten and they are not the same players.
So I think, you know, I would have a hard time going that way, that kind of money for Konecny as I like him as a player.
Pagnotta: “They have a lot of depth on the right side, especially in terms of organization and, with Mischka possibly coming early, at the beginning of next season.” It will be interesting to see how they run the show and how Torts fares.
Hradek: “And (Sean) Couturier, who has a big long contract. So another guy you should see. He was the captain. Then he scratched. Where do you fit in, right? So they find work to do.
NHL Rumors: Jake Guentzel Will Test Free Agency
Pagnotta: “They will also explore a few other options. Scott Laughton was a guy who built up some interest during the season. There is a willingness to at least listen to that on the Philly side of things. So Danny Briere, I don't think he will look to make many significant changes, but he will listen and definitely, continue the conversation with the Konecny camp.
