Everton race to sign 'strong' £10m+ player who impressed against Pickford

It looks set to be a busy summer for Everton on many fronts, with a new name emerging as a target for the Toffees in need of deals in the coming months.

Everton transfer news

Not only do those at Goodison Park have to worry about the ins and outs this summer, but they also have a chance to take it to finally get over the line. After the collapse of the 777 Partners deal, it is John Textor who looks set to step in and save Everton, with something reportedly on the cards. His arrival would at least ease the financial woes at Goodison, but that may not be enough to prevent an exit like that of Amadou Onana.

He enjoyed an impressive campaign in 2023/24.

The Belgian has already been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in a £50m deal this summer. And while his exit will leave a void in Sean Dyche's squad, the benefits of his departure will undoubtedly go a long way, especially if Everton find the right replacement. In an ideal world, Onana would leave for a hefty fee, before the Toffees find a cheaper alternative to match his quality, which is where Armin Gigovic could come in.

According to Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider, Everton are in the race to sign Gigovic this summer along with Crystal Palace and West Ham United. The FK Rostov midfielder enjoyed a successful loan spell at FC Midtjylland 18 months ago – a move that came about due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine – and is now available on loan again this summer.

In the final year of his contract at Rostov, Gigovic could sign a loan deal this summer before moving on a free transfer next year. If the Russian club wants money for their midfielder, on the other hand, he could cost Everton and others £12.7m.

“Tough” Gigovic has already impressed against Pickford

Helping Midtjylland win the Danish Superliga this season, Gigovic went on to impress for Bosnia and Herzegovina in an international friendly against England alongside Jordan Pickford at St James' Park to start a three-team Premier League race for his signature.

He played 82 minutes, it is reported that this midfielder stood out even though they lost 3-0 in the end. He certainly has his admirers in Bosnia, with X account Bosniaco describing Gigovic as “strong” at the end of May.

Still only 22, there could be more to come from Gigovic, who may find himself on the way to Merseyside this summer to ease their Onana blow. Bosnia certainly ticks many of the boxes for the type of deals the Toffees should make in the summer window.
