Celtic in “discussion” to sign the 26-year-old Europa League player

Celtic are “closed in transfer talks” with the Europa League player over a move to the club in the summer transfer window, according to reliable reporter Mark Hendry.

Celtic transfer news

The Hoops continue to be linked with a number of players this summer, as Brendan Rodgers looks to freshen up his squad and make the competition for places even more intense.

Celtic's first signing of the window is likely to be a player familiar to fans, as talks continue over a permanent move for Paulo Bernardo. The 22-year-old played a key role in Rodgers' team that finished the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup double, played 22 games in the league, and moved to Parkhead with a future that seems attractive to him.

Former Celtic defender Kieran Tierney has also been linked with a return to the club, with Arsenal willing to let him leave after loaning him to Real Sociedad for the 2023/24 season. It was even said that the Scot would “go back” to Parkhead, such is his desire to return, but his price tag could be an issue.

Adam Idah was another top loanee for Celtic in 2023/24, arriving from Norwich City and making an immediate impression when fit. His biggest contribution was a stunning last-minute winner against Rangers in the Scottish Cup final, in a moment that may endear him to Hoops fans forever. A permanent deal is being sought by Rodgers, in what could be an excellent piece of business.

Celtic are “talking” about signing the 26-year-old 'keeper

According to Hendry on XCeltic are “closed in transfer talks” with Sparta Prague goalkeeper Peter Vindahl Jensen over a summer move to the club.

In his report of Scottish footballHendry went on to add that “the 26-year-old stopper is high on the Hoops' summer shortlist as they look to bring in a replacement for Joe Hart who has officially retired after winning the Scottish Cup and Premiership Double” added Rodgers. “He is a fan of the player and hopes to lure him to Glasgow.”

With Joe Hart retiring at the end of the season, it is now imperative that Celtic nail down his replacement, given the veteran goalkeeper's influence during his time at the club.

Jensen looks a strong option to come in, however, having made 10 appearances in the Europa League, including two appearances against Liverpool in 2023/24. Granted, the 26-year-old was dismissed 11 times in those games, losing 5-1 and 6-1 in the knockout stages, but he is still a footballer with plenty of pedigree.

The Danish player won two trophies with Sparta last week, winning the title and the Czech Cup, so Celtic could sign a player who can get over the line, continuing their hopes of winning this campaign.

The Hoops could avoid shelling out money on a new signing by bringing in this young talent.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher would still be the best and best option for the Hoops – the Irishman's £10m move has been shelved – but Jensen would be a cheap choice who still has his best years ahead of him.
