Jaron 'Boots' Ennis Will Defend IBF Welterweight Title Against David Avanesyan on July 13th in Philadelphia
IBF welterweight champion Jaron 'Boots' Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) will defend his belt against David Avanesyan (30-4-1, 18 KOs) next month on July 13, live on DAZN in Wells. Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
'Boots' Ennis was scheduled to defend Cody Crowley, but had to pull out due to medical reasons, leaving Jaron's promoter, Eddie Hearn, needing to find a quick replacement.
Avanesyan is the same fighter as Crowley talent-wise and is better known to die-hard boxing fans. He has been in this game for a long time. He had many high profile fights with Terence Crawford, Josh Kelly, Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Lamont Peterson, Shane Mosley, and Kerman Lejarraga.

Avanesyan Rises To That Challenge
The 35-year-old, #4 WBC and #14 IBF-ranked welterweight Avanesyan is the WBA 147-lb champion, and has not seen action inside the ring since his sixth-round submission loss to Terence Crawford on December 10, 2022. .
Boots has no problem with Avanesyan being used as his replacement opponent, saying, “Now that Crowley isn't officially my opponent, I actually like Avanesyan as a better opponent. You will fight a better fight which is what I want. On July 13, don't miss this beautiful, outstanding performance!”
Avanesyan seems very grateful for the title, commenting, “Jaron Ennis is a world-class boxer that I have a lot of respect for. On July 13, we will find out if he really is.”
Hearn's view of Ennis
Hearn wants Boots to quickly become the undefeated welterweight champion and move up to 154 to defeat Crawford before he hangs up his gloves. He is confident that Boot will defeat Crawford if he comes to him after unifying all the belts at 147.
For Boot Ennis to be uncontested at welterweight, he will need to beat these champions:
– Mario Barrios
– Eimantas Stanionis
The WBO belt still needs to be taken away from Crawford who is sitting on certain grounds even though he showed no interest in returning to 147 to defend it. Brian Norman Jr. (26-0, 20 KOs), the WBO interim welterweight champion, could soon be promoted to full champion.
If the fight is made, he would be the one to go after Bots, who arguably has a different promoter and fights on ESPN.
