Golf Business News – Effingham opens new short game practice facility

Effingham Golf Club officially opened its new short game center last week, with DP World Tour and 2008 Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson giving a wedge play clinic to members and guests as part of a launch event at the Surrey venue.

Located between the Georgian clubhouse and the first tee, the practice area, designed by golf course architect James Edwards, is divided into 12 sections for golfers to hone all aspects of their approach game – including 450m.2 putting green and two Bunkers.

Since the completion of construction by respected founder Conor J Walsh, the site – which uses a number of changes to prepare players for the changing environment of Harry Colt's team course – has grown for over a year.

Serviced by a Rain Bird sprinkler system, the facility includes two new practice netting areas and an integrated shoe and cart cleaning station. Its prime location opposite the main entrance means it will be the first thing visitors see when they arrive at the club.

The new short-game facility is the club's second major investment since 2010, with another major renovation project on the 18-hole Championship course completed in 2018 and refurbishing the course. Golf WorldList of top 100 courses in England.

Jonathan Kaltner, General Manager of Effingham Golf Club, said: “We are always asking our members what improvements they would like to see at the club to make their experience even better, and for many years, a new practice facility for short games has been one thing. of the most requested additions.

“Because of the response, we are excited to open what we feel is one of the best centers of its kind in the country. We envision this to be not only a place where players can hone in before using the course, but also something our members can come and enjoy for hours even if they're not playing a round.
