First Look | 2025 RockShox Super Deluxe & Vivid Coil Shocks

Today RockShox unveiled its 2025 suspension lineup, which includes the new Pike, Lyrik and Zeb. Those forks see the introduction of the new Charger 3.1 damper, which promises better performance on the track thanks to its increased oil flow and tuning range.

RockShox has adopted the same philosophy with its rear shock, which is also being updated for 2025. Here we take a look at the Super Deluxe, the brand new Vivid Coil, and the upgrade kits that will be available to existing owners.

2025 RockShox Super Deluxe

The RockShox Super Deluxe is a piggyback shock designed for trail and enduro riding. Depending on the bike, you will find it similar to the Pike or Lyrik in the front.

In terms of its design, the new shock looks very similar to the existing model that was launched two years ago. It still features a DebonAir+ spring design that can be configured with Bottomless Tokens, and is offered with adjustable external rebound and compression damping. In the Ultimate version, the Super Deluxe includes a premium RC2T damper with separate high and low compression adjusters.

Most models come with a two-position lever to engage the hard pedal mode, and there is also an optional Hydraulic Bottom Out function that provides additional ramp support in the last 20% of the stroke.

Compared to previous versions, the main difference with the 2025 Super Deluxe is found inside the larger piston. Featuring a revised design that offers greater oil flow, the main goal was to reduce overall compression to improve grip and sensitivity. Combined with a lightweight reverse check plate, the new high-flow piston is said to smooth the transition between compression and rebound stroke.

You'll find new damping internals on all versions of the new Super Deluxe, although a high-flow piston is available with a $50 AUD upgrade kit for existing owners.

Linear XL air can

RockShox also introduced a new Linear XL air can for the Super Deluxe shock. Joining the existing Linear and Progressive options, the Linear XL offers additional volume that helps close the gap on the larger Vivid Air shocks.

The Linear XL air can is stillable with Bottomless Tokens, but the larger size means it can fit eight tokens in total, compared to just four in existing air cans. This provides a much wider tuning range meaning that the Linear XL air can provide the same level of stroke continuity as the Linear air when no Tokens are installed. With all eight it will rise to about the same as Progressive air.

In addition to being a new stock option for the 2025 Super Deluxe, the Linear XL is available as a $167 AUD upgrade for existing users.

2025 RockShox Vivid Coil

• Amount: $1,065 – $1,115 AUD (plus 67 AUD for coil springs)

While the Super Deluxe was recently updated, the RockShox Vivid Coil is a new shock for 2025. It replaces the existing Super Deluxe Coil as a gravity shock designed for downhill and enduro racing. As such, you will find long travel bikes with a Zeb or Boxxer on the front.

Following in the footsteps of the Vivid Air shock released last year, the Vivid Coil includes many of the same damping features. This includes TouchDown technology, which adds position-sensitive cushioning to provide maximum sensitivity in the first 10% of the stroke. Once you're past this point you switch to a larger piston and its normal speed-sensitive exhaust. Deeper into the travel you will use the adjustable Hydraulic Bottom Out circuit, which starts the last 20% of the stroke. Along with the external bumper that comes off the ground, the Vivid Coil aims to cushion the end of the ride to reduce any strain at full throttle.

All Vivid Coil models feature external adjustable rebound damping, and as you go up the range you get more dials to play with. The top-end Ultimate offers separate high and low compression adjusters, and can have a two-position threshold lever that provides a firm ride mode.
