Jack Nicklaus still believes that Rory McIlroy has the quality to win more Majors and is not sure what went wrong with him.

Nicklaus suggested that the problems facing McIlroy have to do with his mind or at least his ability to focus.

The Golden Bear was reminded of his prediction that McIlroy could win 15 Majors which he did after the Ulsterman won the 2014 PGA Championship.

Speaking to Golf Channel's Nicklaus, Tom Lerner said: “Jack, I remember you saying this before, when he won the PGA Championship at Valhalla 10 years ago, he said at the time you thought he could win 15 majors. That was the last one.”

“Well, it's been a while for him, but I'm a big Rory fan,” Nicklaus said. “I've been a big Rory fan for a long time.

“He's a good person, and he's an amazing player, he has a great golf game, he plays a lot of good shots, and I don't know where he loses sometimes.

“But you know, he can't seem to focus everywhere.”

Commentator Frank Nobilo also noted that McIlroy has the ability to pull off a boil.

“I think you're right, Jack. There are like two Rorys today. His badness, even if he admits it to you, is bad. But his beauty is better than all the others,” said Nobilo.

Nicklaus was impressed by Scottie Scheffler

Nicklaus also commented on Scottie Scheffler's poor form this season.

Scheffler has captured a Masters title and has hosted the PGA Tour's Signature Events.

The record winner believes that Scheffler's composure under pressure is what really makes him stand out on Tour.

He was very impressed with Scheffler's consistent play this season and his ability to keep scoring.

“Well, I think Scheffler is great. I think he's brought new life to the game. He can obviously play great. He comes in week in and week out and plays amazing. It's unbelievable. Nobody has done this in a long time.

“I think Scheffler is calm about what he is doing. Watch Scottie play. He doesn't look like he's doing anything impressive.

“I don't know how I was playing but he is playing well. But still he doesn't make dumb mistakes.”
