Borussia Dortmund appointed Sahin as the new coach

Borussia Dortmund appointed Edin Terzic's former assistant Nuri Sahin as their new coach today.

Sahin returned to Dortmund earlier this year, as manager at Antalyaspor, to work under Terzic and helped Dortmund reach the Champions League final but lost to Real Madrid.

The 35-year-old played 274 games for the club as a player in the game which included spells at Real Madrid and Liverpool.

He takes over from Terzic who resigned yesterday after two years in charge.

“It is a great honor for me to be the coach of Borussia Dortmund,” said Sahin, who signed a three-year contract at Signal Iduna Park.

“I would like to thank all those involved in the club for the trust they have placed in me. I am looking forward to my career at BVB. We will do everything possible from day one with great energy and passion to be as successful as possible.”

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl added: “Nuri Sahin helped last season lead our team to the Champions League final. He knows from his experience as a player and as an assistant coach how BVB works – and above all how success works.

“Because of his natural authority and expertise, he has access to our team and knows what we need to work on together.

“Nuri is happy to trust him completely, he has her full support.”

Sahin will inherit a squad lacking in experience with Mats Hummels and Marco Reus leaving the club this summer.
