Dan Hurley's Wife Was 'Infuriated Over Lakers' Offer'

Dan Hurley spoke candidly about his wife Andrea's reaction to the Lakers giving her husband the head coaching role.

The UConn coach turned down LA's six-year, $70 million contract to chase a three-peat at the national championship with the Huskies.

The 51-year-old told the brutal truth about how the whole situation, including the wild media circus, affected his wife.

“He was like crying at first,” Hurley said of his appearance The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz on Thursday. “I think at first, in the first few days, he got angry, he doesn't like to hit me and stuff… he felt like, 'I can't believe you brought this to me. Our life is so sweet… perfect. Our lives couldn't be better and now you bring this sh*t.

“So, he was mean at first but then he warmed up when we went out there and met him [Lakers GM] Rob [Pelinka] and met Jeanie [Buss] and felt the weather. We walked around Manhattan Beach and just met a lot of people. And you saw your vision. He was into it.

“But when we got back to Connecticut without making a decision and we came home and we both repented [to UConn].”

Hurley went on to explain that he would have taken more time to put the proposal together, but set a deadline for a decision.

“[The decision] it was worrying me and my wife and my two sons and our whole family,” Hurley said, adding that things had “become a bit of a circus” in the media.

He also shut down rumors that he used the Lakers coaching offer as leverage to get a better contract with the Huskies.

“One of the worst things I've heard is that this is my game to improve my situation at UConn,” Hurley told Le Batard.

“I have a contract for a few weeks. And the last part, according to the salary, was done for a while. There are other parts, like NIL and employee salary and other exceptions, which I want to adjust and I am not comfortable with. But the mindset that this was just a ploy to get me a sweet deal at UConn, it's just lazy.”
