For Novak Djokovic Participation in Wimbledon is unlikely, but not impossible, said the doctor who performed arthroscopic surgery on the right knee of the Serbian star.

Dr. Antoine Gerometta told the French publication L'Equipe the Grand Slam king probably won't be 100 percent during Wimbledon, which starts on July 1st.

“We can dream and say that everything will go quickly,” Dr. Gerometta told L'Equipe. “But within 45 minutes with Novak, his team and Vincent Guillard, the doctor of the French Tennis Federation, I was clear when I said that everything depends on the reaction of his knee.

“By gradually increasing the load, we will see that you live without swelling or pain. We will have to see how it changes day by day, but it is impossible to predict what the state will be in a week or fifteen days. That it will be 100% in three weeks seems impossible.”

In an Instagram post, Djokovic said last week that the surgery went well and he is focused on recovery.

“A day ago, I had to make difficult decisions after tearing my meniscus in my last match,” Djokovic wrote on social media. “I am still preparing everything but I am happy to inform you that the operation went well.

“I am very grateful to the team of doctors who were with me, and the amazing support I received from my fans.”

Serbian media reports that Djokovic intends to try to return in time for next month's Paris Olympics at Roland Garros. However, that would be a huge goal given his knee injury and recovery time.

The Paris Olympics are scheduled for July 27-August 4.

Djokovic, who was ousted as world number 1 by Jannik Sinner, said his ambition is still high.

“I will do everything in my power to be healthy and ready to return to the court as soon as possible,” said Djokovic. “My love for this game is strong and the desire to participate in a high level competition is what keeps me going.”
