Social Golfer Open proves revolutionary success – Golf News
The 15th annual Social Golfer Open Championship was held at Bletchingley Golf Club in Surrey last week, where over 50 golfers from across the south east gathered to compete and raise money for the upcoming 2024 Cairns Cup – the premier of international golf. a playoff event between teams from Europe and the USA, which will be held in Michigan later this summer.
The TSG Open Championship, played over 18 holes, included the men's and women's Stableford competitions, as well as a yellow ball team competition.
The men's competition was fierce, with the winner, Kent's Sam Cooke, taking the honors on his way back after his 35 points were tied with Buckinghamshire's John Moody.
The women's event saw Chrissy Peachy take an easy four-point win, with her 39-point haul seeing the Essex player finish four points clear of second-placed Ruth Brand from Sussex.
The yellow ball competition was won by The Stooges, consisting of Jason Croucher, Rich White, Cass Stevens and Phil Meadows. Jason is a disabled golfer hoping to play in the Cairns Cup in 2026. Jason also won the Golf News Guest Trophy, open to guests of TSG members, with 35 points.
Commenting on the day, women's winner Chrissy Peacham said: “What a thrill! I've never won a golf event before. This is a great day of golf and it's all for a wonderful cause. A big thank you to all sponsors and sponsors. I can't wait to defend my title next year!”
Croucher added: “I am very proud to win the Golf News Magazine – Guest Trophy. A big thank you to the Social Golfer team for an amazing event and good luck to all the Cairns Cup players this year in Michigan. “
After the tournament, the contestants were treated to a two-stage American-style BBQ and one armed chip (sponsored by GoGoGo Sport Rangefinders),
The partnership between The Social Golfer and the Cairns Cup – now in its fourth year – saw attendees raise more than £3,000 for handicap golf on the day, providing much needed funds for the European team to come to Michigan and their supporting carers. .
The prize raffle included four-ball vouchers to be played at some of the best venues in the South East, including West Hill, Sundridge Park, The Shire, The Inspiration, Hanbury Manor, Wentworth and many more.
