Roy Keane warns Trent Alexander-Arnold will be 'torn apart' in the England midfield.

Roy Keane strongly believes Trent Alexander-Arnold will be 'available' and 'missed' if he plays in midfield at Euro 2024, especially if England go deep into the tournament.

Alexander-Arnold is expected to be in the starting line-up for the Three Lions – alongside Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham in the middle of the park – as they begin their European Championship campaign against Serbia on Sunday night.

Primarily known as Liverpool's right-back, Alexander-Arnold is highly regarded for his unique passing ability and vision, leading many fans to talk Gareth Southgate into putting him in the middle of the field sooner than he did.

However, speaking ITVManchester United legend Keane has expressed doubts.

“England have some brilliant players; four or five players who can fit into any team in this tournament. But it's about getting the balance right,” he said. “You have players who can go and win games for you, but the problem is defending against better teams, I think they will be fine in the group, Trent will be fine. [in midfield].

“But if we face top teams, I think he will be available. I think he would be very disappointed if he plays against one of the better teams in the middle of the field. I don't think he can.”

Former Red Devil Wayne Rooney echoed Keane's words recently, criticizing Alexander-Arnold's defending.

“Defensively, he's all over the place,” Rooney said Ovalap. “He can't defend himself. I wouldn't have him anywhere near midfield.

“I would have no problem playing him here [at right-back]. I'm thinking here [midfield]I wouldn't have him anywhere near that.”

Responding to these criticisms, Southgate acknowledged the different views, noting that Alexander-Arnold's midfield change represents a calculated risk but also an opportunity for the 25-year-old to show his potential.

“Everyone is entitled to opinions,” said Southgate. “I talked to Trent about playing this role about a year ago. It's not something he's been doing in the last five years. There's something unknown. But I think it's an opportunity you have to take because he could be incredibly special. .”
