Euro 2024: 'This generation has no limit'

Romania manager Edward Iordanescu said the current generation of players have “limitless” opportunities.

The Tricolorii ended a 24-year injury layoff by beating Ukraine in their Euro 2024 opener, taking them to the top of Group E ahead of Belgium's match against Slovakia.

Nicolae Stanciu gave the Romanians a goal in the first half, beating Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin with a superb curling effort that went wide of the post.

Ukraine tried to rally but found themselves 2-0 down less than 10 minutes into the second half, with Razvan Marin burying a low effort from distance.

And Romania ended the game a few minutes later, Denis Dragus slotting home from close range to secure the three points.

Iordanescu was devastated after the game and had nothing but praise not only for the players and fans who followed their nation on the field, but for all Romanians in the world.

He said: “I would like to thank all Romanians everywhere in the world. I know they were with us today.

“It was a great effort by my team. If you had doubts, I think you can believe me now that this is a great team. I congratulate you guys. It's just amazing.

“Since I joined the national team, I have faced difficult times. It wasn't always easy.

“We have had other big games. We have had great generations with great performances, but this generation represents the soul.

“This team has put in a lot of effort in everything. A heart as big as this group, no one has ever had. This generation has no limit.”

The best player in the game Stanciu is also happy with the way he and his teammates played in the big league.

He continued: “I know myself and my teammates, so I know that we will not celebrate after this win.” We will only focus on Belgium now.

“This shirt means everything to me. To score in the EURO final and win the way we did, it's amazing.”
