Premier League matchweeks to look forward to in 2024/25

We may all be ready for Euro 2024 right now, but that hasn't stopped the Premier League from stealing some headlines by releasing the fixtures for the upcoming 2024/25 season.

And, as it always does, the Premier League's gaming computer has given us some great weekends of football to look forward to.

Here are our team picks for the first half of the upcoming 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

Games of note: Ipswich Town vs Liverpool, Arsenal vs Wolves, Chelsea vs Man City

For the second season running, Chelsea will host one of the Premier League title favorites on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Who can be a Chelsea fan, eh?

This season's opening clash with the top club has another intrigue attached to it, with new Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca going head-to-head with his former mentor Pep Guardiola – the pair previously worked together at Man City.

Elsewhere, it will be interesting to see how another new manager, Arne Slot, fares in his first game in charge of Liverpool – a trip to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town – and we will be keen to see how Arsenal start another season. where they are expected to challenge for the title.

The first real test of Slot's managerial mettle will come in week three when he takes his Liverpool side to Old Trafford.

Jurgen Klopp has had an exceptional record against Liverpool's rivals, so it will be interesting to see if Slot can continue that record against Manchester United while in charge.

Tottenham's trip to Newcastle will again provide plenty of intrigue in week three, as both clubs are expected to challenge for a place in the top four.

Game of note: Man City vs Arsenal

We will have to wait just five weeks before last season's top two teams go head-to-head.

Manchester City will welcome Arsenal to the Etihad Stadium for an early title decider where both teams will be aiming to show some strength at the top of the table.

Sure, the games weren't very exciting to watch in 2023/24, but the huge amount at stake will make this watch at least interesting.

Was Chelsea's late, late, 4-3 win over Man Utd the best game of the 2023/24 season?

Probably, yes.

Will their first clash of the 2024/25 season be just as good?

Well, we can live in hope.

And if not, we've got Newcastle vs Arsenal and Tottenham vs Aston Villa to enjoy on the same weekend, so whatever.

The Jurgen Klopp – Pep Guardiola rivalry may be over, but we expect the Liverpool – Man City rivalry to be alive and well.

Liverpool's rivalry with Man City has been fierce for the past decade.

Ah, derby weekend. He likes to see you.

In gameweek 15, we will be treated to both the Merseyside derby and the London derby. The former will see Liverpool looking to avenge their defeat to Everton at the end of the 2023/24 season, while the latter will see Tottenham and Chelsea likely to continue their battle for a top four finish.

Fun stuff.

It will be a long wait until we see the first Manchester derby of the season, but in December we think it will be worth the wait.

The derby was dominated by City until United unexpectedly emerged and performed well in the FA Cup final this past spring.
