Ryan Garcia's PED Test Decision: New York Commission to Decide This Week

Ryan Garcia will find out this week what the New York State Athletic Commission will decide about his positive PED test from last April's fight with Devin Haney.

New York Commission on Determining the End

According to Lance Pugmire, the New York Commission will meet later this week to decide what penalty to give Ryan (25-1, 20 KOs), a popular star. Garcia believes that his HIV test was the result of drinking a contaminated substance.

Ryan defeated the previously undefeated Haney (31-1, 15 KOs) via a 12-round majority decision on April 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. A lot of people were shocked to see how the underdog, Ryan, was successful and managed a fight that could have easily ended in the seventh round.

Many believe that they will slap Ryan, 25, with a suspension of three to six months, which could keep him out of the ring until the end of the year. Considering this is his first offense, a ban of one to two years does not make sense.

Speculating on Punishment

Ryan's popularity makes him unlikely to be a candidate for a long-term suspension. It seems unfair but this game is at a high level and it would be bad if it was banned for a year or more as the fans on social media are asking.

If Ryan is suspended for a year, it will be difficult for him to come back this way, especially if he gains weight and can't get down to 140.

The New York commission giving Ryan a long suspension would mean he won't be back in the state for future fights. That's not good for New York.

Some fans hate Ryan and are not happy about what he did to Haney, beating him and ending his chances of becoming a star.

It will be good if this case goes to trial soon because many boxing fans were eager to see if Ryan will be removed, suspended or banned for life.
