Scotland manager Steve Clarke gives an update on Kieran Tierney's injury

Scotland coach, Steve Clarke, has decided that Kieran Tierney will be out of his team's important match against Hungary in Euro 2024.

The 27-year-old defender – who spent last season on loan at Real Sociedad from Arsenal – is a key player for his country, having made 46 appearances so far and roaming the left flank with Andy Robertson.

Tierney has started both of Scotland's games at Euro 2024 so far, with the Tartan Army losing 5-1 at the hands of hosts Germany in their opener before recovering to draw 1-1 with Switzerland.

However, Tierney was forced off in the 61st minute after landing heavily on his leg when challenging for the ball. When he watched, the defender might have strained his hamstring.

Clarke gives a worrying update on Tierney's injury

After Wednesday's game in Cologne, Clarke was asked to give an update on Tierney's fitness, with the Scotland manager ruling him out of their final group game against Hungary on Sunday.

“We're definitely out,” Clarke said (via BBC Sport). “It looks very bad. We have to check it but Kieran won't make it in the next game.

“He is a top player for us. It stays very well. It's a shame but someone has to step in and step up.”

Tierney will be sorely missed as Scotland look for a win that would see them qualify for the round of 16 as one of the best third-placed sides – failure to beat the Hungarians would likely see them return home.

It remains unclear whether Celtic defender Tierney will be able to return to action in time for the knockout rounds, should Scotland make it that far.
